Play It Again Piano

A Resource For Pianists...
...Who Love to "Play It Again"

Free Piano Lessons On-Line

NOTE: Most free courses/lessons are a tease to get you to buy a course of some sort. But it is a great way to "try before you buy"...and you might just learn something! From my favorites on down....

Play Piano Today
Wow! What a wonderful bunch of freebies! This site does sell a couple different learn-pop-piano packages...but it also has free Flash "articles" right on the site. Heard about straddles, but didn't know what they were? Hear them played and explained. Looking for some basic blues instruction...check out the 11 lessons here. Other topics as well (tension...slash chords...etc.).

Piano Nanny
Truly free music lessons! Three levels of lessons offered, which they call Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. By my reckoning...they are ALL beginning. Takes you from knowing nothing about the keyboard or music notation through simple chording rhythms and ends with the blues scale. Great samples of the teacher's original compositions as well.

Hear and Play
Home of Jermaine Griggs 300-page piano course, this website has 60 free lessons (you just need to sign up to gain access)...and you can sign up for a free newsletter that will teach you piano theory via e-mail.

Piano Fun
Sign up for a free newsletter, and you can download a couple of interesting PDFs....one about popular piano playing in general and one about reading music notation. A fun little set of mini-lessons as well!

Piano Instruction
Take the free sample of the first month of for-fee lessons to see if you like this teacher's way of teaching piano. Download these and other "sheets" of music and instruction that you will find if you crawl around the links on this site. Mac Users take note: you will not be able to download and view the videos on this site. The require a Windows player.

Free Sheet Music On-Line

Sheet music on-line is available in a variety of formats.

  • GIF, that common website picture format. Just right-click to save (hold click for Mac).
  • Adobe PDF format; you'll need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these.
  • the non-printable Scorch plug-in format. While these can't be printed (usually), you can actually play them through your browser and "follow the notes" (great for correlating what you hear with what you see).

8Notes.com
Downloadable GIFs, Scorch versions of public domain music for free. PDFs only available to paying members. Has links to other free sheet music. Great place to start your search for free sheet music.

Sheet Music Digital
You can download public domain music (classical, hyms, folk tunes, etc.) in PDF format for free. (And you can download other licensed music for a fee.) Some songs are also available in Scorch.

Other Music Resources

Some wonderful people have set up some fantasic freebies for us all to enjoy!

Blank Sheet Music
Print out just about any kind of blank notation that you need or can think of!

Virtual Piano Chords
See what any chord or scale looks like on the piano keyboard. Either type in the chord you want, or choose from the menus. Great aid in learning chords!

Chord House
Similar to the above, but you can HEAR the chords as well as see them. This site also gives extra information about the different names of the chord, the intervals, number of half steps and the note names. Fantastic when you want to delve a little deeper about what makes each chord tick...or if you just want to hear them!
